10/20/00
8:00am - backing into port at Castaway Cay. It is really pretty amazing seeing a ship this large (the Magic is longer than the Titanic) backing into port. With it's side thrusters, the Magic can spin a 360 degree circle while standing in place. We did not jerk at all as we pulled alongside the dock and made contact with the bumpers. Impressive being able to control this ship with that much accuracy.

We had a buffet breakfast at Topsiders and then went up top to take in the sights.

Back to the room for a few minutes and off to the island.  Miranda met up with friends from the club, so she was off for the day.

Arlona, Alex & I hopped off the ship and caught a tram to the main family beach.

The island has a family beach and an adult beach.  They offer open air massages, hair braiding and a buffet lunch. There are swimming areas and a separate snorkeling area. Disney built a fish habitat here so that the guests could explore and see marine life. Scientists from Epcot and Disney's Animal Kingdom use this area for study.

We grabbed a couple chairs for the stuff and headed into the ocean. Disney has done a wonderful job building this beach. You know it is semi-artificial, but you don't care. It is beautiful. Arlona & I decided that the ship could dock here for a couple days. We would like more time to explore the island.

We spent time swimming and diving for shells. The bottom is white sand mixed with small shells. The swimming area varies from shore to 7-8 feet deep or so, depending on tides.

After a buffet lunch outdoors, Alex checked in to the kids' club on the island. Arlona & I took the tram to Serenity Point, the adult's only beach area.

You travel there by a "deserted" runway used by the island's former inhabitants.  All this is created by Disney, but it is so good, you don't care.

Our time there was quite limited, however, as I realized that I forgot our carry-bag at the lunch table. We went back and discovered that a staff member had already grabbed it and had it put away for safe keeping. You've got to love Disney for that. I dropped my wallet at Disney World a few years ago. Within 10 minutes, a custodian had found it and delivered it to lost & found where they emptied it and inventoried every single thing in it. It was sealed with tape when I went to claim it. Every dollar was intact. They are amazing.

There are many wonderful views on the island.

Alex took another dip as Arlona looked on.  We then returned to the ship.

Miranda and her friends came back to the ship to see Disney's The Kid at the Buena Vista theater. Alex took another quick dip before we returned to shower for our last dinner on board.

At 5:30, we heard the ship's horn & we were underway. Just like our departure from Port Canaveral, we got a white glove send off.

We opened the bottle of Asti we won last night and had a pre-dinner toast. We figured that it would be a bit tacky to carry the bottle down to dinner so we left it in the fridge in the room. When we showed up with the glasses of Asti, we told Romulus that we had opened our bottle. He said to bring it down, so Miranda went back and grabbed it for us.

Dinner at Parrot Cay tonight was It's a Small World, featuring dishes from many countries, honoring the crew that hails from over 50 countries. Since we ate a late lunch, and had been eating all week, we were not terribly hungry. Dinner was good tonight. Dessert featured flaming baked Alaska.

The wait staff the paraded through the dining room with flags of many nations.

After dinner, we went to Rockin' Bar D for the comedy and magic of Lee Bailess. We then went to the evening show, Disney Dreams, but it was standing room only. Since we saw that show last year on the Wonder, we opted to do a little last minute shopping. The kids then went for their last night in the club and Arlona & I caught Lee Bailess' second act.

We picked up Alex after he finished his last big-screen video games and took him for his last late-night pizza slice.

Miranda opted to stay for a little longer, swapping e-mail addresses and saying goodbye to new friends.

We finished packing the bags and placing them in the hall for overnight relocation to prepare for disembarkation.

We'll be up early tomorrow for breakfast sooff to bed.
