10/19/00
The Kolb family awoke early this day at sea for a character breakfast at Parrot Cay. Our regular evening servers, Sasha & Romulus took their usual great care of us this morning while we enjoyed some time with the characters.

We were greeted by Goofy and saw our cooks, Chip & Dale. Alice and the White Rabbit stopped by as did Snow White & Dopey.

The Atlantic, while fairly smooth, was swelling today. The ship rocked smoothly from side to side all day. Different than the sudden motion from Sunday, but still noticeable.

After breakfast, we went back to the room, Miranda opted to stay in the room and work on homework for an hour (we pulled her out of school for this vacation) and Alex went to his club. Arlona & I went to another cooking demonstration featuring entrees. We learned to prepare Risotto, which is a rice dish. The chef prepared it with leeks, onions and garlic. It was surprisingly good.   The tables were always wonderfully decorated.

We came by the room and picked up Miranda for a walk around the top deck. There, we discovered Alex on 10 forward at the sports center. He was ready to check out so we came back to the room for a few minutes.

We spent most of the morning sailing north of what appeared to be a pretty good rain storm, the only rain we saw all week.

We started the afternoon at Disney's Island Magic, a live production show at the Buena Vista Theater. Minnie, Pluto, Goofy, Chip & Dale try to get Castaway Cay ready for Captain Mickey and the Disney Magic's arrival. They find a treasure map and have to foil Captain Hook, who arrives to spoil the fun.

Topsider featured a seafood buffet today along with the usual selection of wonderful desserts.

We toured the aft of the ship, taking in the beautiful view from the aft overlook decks on 7 & 6.

A quick stop off in the room to get soda cups and off to Studio Sea for the Mickey 200. We were given a potato, carrot, four toothpicks and four pinewood derby wheels/nails. We had a knife and a cutting board and were told to make a vehicle.

These vehicles had to fit on a three-lane track and would be judged for creative design and ability to win heats. We went against conventional wisdom and mounted the potato on top of the carrot. Unfortunately, physics took over and we tumbled off the track and crashed and burned. The judges did not see the creativity in the potato on top design. We had lots of fun, though and were impressed with the engineering and creativity of some the cars.

Back to the room for a quick change and off to the pool for the afternoon.

We dressed for the last formal evening of the cruise. I wore a new Mickey tie & cummerbund set. Arlona had a new shimmery blue pants suit with matching tank top. As usual, she was stunning.

We mingled at Mickey's cocktail reception in the main atrium prior to heading to Animator's Palate for dinner, We had yet another wonderful meal in Animator's Palate. The second time there, however, there is no show.

After dinner, we did some window shopping prior to catching this evening's variety show. The comedians had us laughing to the point of almost crying. It was a really fun show.

The kids checked into their clubs. Arlona & I went to Rockin' Bar D for the "So You Think You Know Your Music" game. The DJ played clips from 16 songs. Each team had to identify the title, artist and show or movie the song was released for, if applicable. Out of 44 possible points, we scored 27. Respectable, but well out of the lead.

After the music game, they moved into the Match Your Mate game - Disney's version of the Newlywed Game. They first chose a newlywed couple from New York. Next, they looked for a couple married 10-25 years. Our yells got the host's attention. He asked why we should be picked. I dipped Arlona and gave her a big kiss. That was enough of an answer for the host and up we went. The final couple was married 52 years - stiff competition. They whisked the guys off stage and asked the ladies three questions. When we came back, they asked the same questions of the guys.

The gal's questions:
Question Arlona's Answer Garry's Answer Comment
Would she describe your "prowess" as most resembling a) Mel Gibson; b) Patrick Swayze ; c) Speedy Gonzales; d) Pee Wee Herman? Mel Gibson Mel Gibson OK - I got lucky :-)
Where was your first kiss Stairwell in the dorm, between 3rd & 4th floor Stairwell in the dorm, between 3rd & 4th floor OK - my initial response was in the front seat of my car, but that was our first time holding hands - I changed my answer :-)
Who was your last girlfriend and what does you wife think of her? Ruby Ruby The comments are of course withheld.

Then the ladies left and the guys answered three questions.

The guy's questions:
Question Garry's Answer Arlona's Answer Comment
If you were going to stranded on a desert island with one of your wife's family, who would you NOT want it to be and why? For obvious reasons, this answer is withheld For obvious reasons, this answer is withheld We matched :-)
What is your wife's most annoying habit. Occasional snoring Working too much OK - we got this wrong.  As you can see, I wasn't thinking about work, Arlona, however...
Where was the most interesting place you "discovered the magic"? For obvious reasons, this answer is withheld For obvious reasons, this answer is withheld We matched :-)

With the exception of my #2 question, we got everything else right and won as the best matched mates - as if there was any doubt!

The couple married 52 years brought down the house. His answer to the "discover the magic" question was, "in a hayloft." His wife had a hard time coming up with an answer. He finally said, "she won't remember - it wasn't with her!"

We won "I'm a Winner" medals and some other trinkets as souvenirs along with a bottle of Asti Spumanti. We also confirmed what we have known for the past 17 years - we are made for each other!

Miranda had already checked out and headed back to the room. We picked up Alex and a slice of cheese pizza and turned in for the evening,

Tonight's towel animals were especially appropriate - two kissing swans.

Tomorrow - Castaway Cay!
