Monday, July 2, 20018:30 is the call for breakfast. We enjoyed french toast, sausage and cereal before morning chapel. Doug Smith, the pastor/speaker from last year, is here again this year. All week, we will be exploring lesson he has learned over the past year as his life has gone through some dramatic changes. We settled back into camp after morning service to get ready for the day. The kids headed to the bouldering wall in the morning. The bouldering wall is like a climbing wall, but laid on its side. Rather than climb up, you climb sideways, traversing the wall, as the holds get smaller. It's tougher than it looks.
After bouldering, we played a little putt-putt golf on Center Lake's course.
The kids had fun climbing on Noah's Ark
and swinging on the tire swings. We rested a bit before lunch.
We had a great lunch with BLT sandwiches and then enjoyed the bright afternoon sun. The kids hit the lake for a quick dip. Alex stayed in the lake and the girls went for a session on the climbing wall. They later returned to the lake just in time for...the BLOB.
The blob is basically a 40-foot air filled pillow. The first "blobber" jumps onto the blob from a platform roughly 10 feet above the blob. They then crawl out to the end, turn around and sit, facing away from the platform. The next blobber then calls "blobber ready?" The blobber holds up an arm indicating they are ready. The sender then jumps onto the blob, shooting the blobber into the air, and the lake. It is great fun. The kids especially had fun this year as dad was allowed to blob them. The weight differential made for superior launches.
Once the beach closed at 5, we hit the tents and got ready for dinner. Dinner featured fresh salads, ham, au gratin potatoes and cake. Center Lake does a great job with the food. After evening chapel, Arlona & I took a stroll around the grounds while the kids played. We rallied around the campfire for smores and moonlight melts.
To make moonlight melt, you slice banana into a foils pouch along with mini marshmallows and chocolate chips. You then seal up the foil and toss it in the coals for a few minutes. It turns out as a sticky, gooey, rich treat. The kids played Risk while the parents enjoyed the fire. A brief sprinkle ended the games and was the cue for the kids to hit the sack. Duane Whitley, the camp director realized that nobody had grabbed any of the nightly snack that the camp prepares, so he dashed off to the kitchen and brought back fresh cookies, milk & fruit. We stayed by the fire until the rain started again. Off to the tent and falling asleep to the sound of the rain on the tent. |
