On October 2, 1994, I realized a dream and became a private pilot. I try to fly at least 3-4 times a month. As a family, we have traveled to Chicago to visit Grandma & Grandpa - my mom, now relocated to the Windy City. We also have visited Grandma & Grandpa Toman (Arlona's folks) in Muskegon. I completed my instrument rating on August 11, 1996. We celebrated with a trip to Mall of America for our 13th anniversary. You can see some our photos on Julie Pederson's picture page. Here is my plane, a 1966 Cessna 182 Skylane, which I own with two partners. Summer, 1998 took us to Pittsburgh. We visited Kennywood Amusement Park during its centennial year. We also visited the Carnegie Science Center. We then flew on to Cincinnati and spent a couple of days at King's Island. Over memorial Day weekend, we flew to Wilmington Delaware and visited with friends.
On September 4, 2000, I finally got around to flying into Meigs. I've always wanted to do it, but never made plans to. We landed on runway 36 with winds 020 at 25 knots. Ceilings were low and we had to do the VOR/DME approach. All-in-all, it was quite fun!
